Applications for the 2027-28 Chevening Scholarships closed on 6 October. Most candidates now settle in to wait for the result. The tightest point in the timeline is not there, it is between June and July. Results are announced from mid-June, and an unconditional offer from a UK university must be in your hands by 8 July 2027.

The full timeline
Why waiting for the result does not work
The scholarship result arrives from mid-June. The unconditional offer must be in place by 8 July. That leaves roughly three weeks. A university application, its assessment, the completion of English language conditions and the document process may not conclude in that time.
Chevening itself advises candidates to apply to universities as early as possible rather than waiting for the scholarship outcome.
The right order is this. University applications run independently of the scholarship. The offer is yours either way. If the scholarship comes through, it is used. If it does not, you still hold the offer and can look at other funding. I have written separately on when a master's application should actually begin.
“Unconditional” is a technical word here
Most university offers are conditional. A language test score, a final transcript, sometimes a single outstanding document. Holding the offer is not enough. Until the condition is lifted, it does not count for Chevening.
Lifting a condition is a scheduling problem. You sit the test, wait for the result, sit it again if needed, the document reaches the university, the university updates the offer. Every link in that chain takes weeks, which is why the timing of the language test is a planning question of its own.
Results in June, unconditional offer by 8 July. Those three weeks are not enough to obtain an offer. They are enough to hand one over.
The interview window
Shortlisting notifications go out in mid-February and interviews are held in March and April. Preparation does not have to wait for the February notification.
The interview is a defence of what you wrote. The panel returns to your leadership example, your networking account and your plan to go home.
Keep your application texts and the examples you gave. At interview you will be developing your answers on leadership, networking and your career plan out of those same examples.
What to do between now and February
- Start the university applications. Programme deadlines do not wait for the Chevening calendar.
- Set the language test schedule. Sit it early enough to keep a second attempt in reserve.
- Find out now what each of your chosen programmes requires for an unconditional offer.
- Keep a copy of your application texts.
The Chevening application is a beginning. What you do while waiting for the result is what makes the difference.
Dates are taken from Chevening's official application timeline and were checked on 16 October 2026. The timeline can change each cycle, so confirm on the official page before you rely on it.
